Root Canal Treatment also known as Endodontic Therapy Treatment - it is a procedure that
eliminates bacteria from the infected root canal of the tooth, and prevents reinfection of the
tooth and saves the tooth from being extracted.
A modern root canal treatment is very similar to a routine filling and can be completed in one or two appointments. Appointments are 1- 1.5 hours in length and are about 3-4 weeks apart. Root canal treatment not only saves the
tooth from being extracted but also has many other advantages such as: improves efficient chewing, normalises biting force and sensation, natural appearance, protects other teeth from excessive wear or strain.
Generally, a root-filled tooth will need a crown as they typically have a higher risk of fracture due to the tooth being weaker as a result of a considerable loss of tooth structure that allows access to the roots.
