Invisible Aligners

Invisible Aligners at Annerley Dental

Everyone wants a bright smile with uniform, even teeth. If your teeth aren’t straight with crooked, crowded, or rotated teeth or you have another issue like a gap between your teeth, you’re likely looking at ways to make your smile is more attractive, then clear aligners may be the answer for your orthodontic needs. At Annerley Dental, we offer clear aligners to our patients.

The four main advantages of clear aligners over traditional braces are:

  1. They’re invisible- they are less obvious than metal braces and even clear braces
  2. They’re removable to eat and drink or when you need to for social functions
  3. You can clean your teeth using your regular brushing and flossing routine
  4. They are custom-made to fit in your mouth and are designed to be as smooth and comfortable as possible

Caring For Your Invisible Aligners

The fact they are removable means you have to be diligent to keep them in for at least 22 hours per day. The success of treatment relies on the patient wearing them and that they are seated properly. Each aligner applies a different force with movements of 0.25 mm for anterior teeth and 0.33 mm for posterior teeth.

Plastic attachments are added to teeth to extend the movement aligners can deliver. On average the aligners are changed every 2 weeks which can be reduced further by using a vibrating appliance placed over the aligners twice daily for 5 minutes.

What’s the Process for Getting Invisible Aligners?

Prior to starting with aligners we must ensure the teeth are decay free, restorations present are stable and there is no gum disease (periodontitis) present.

As with fixed braces x rays and study models are taken which are imported to software that helps to develop our initial treatment plan. Your teeth are scanned with an intra oral camera and this file with our instructions from our initial records is sent to the manufacturer who presents us with a treatment plan which we look over and ensure it meets all the aesthetic and functional objectives we have agreed to.

The average treatment period for these aligners is 12-18 months but will vary from case to case, depending on the tooth movements that need to take place.
